Update On Grand Beach Realty Story

You recall the Miami Beach couple we first told you about in our article "Grand Beach Realty Makes Big Stink Over Little Pig." You can view that original post here. Mr. Moreno told the couple that he was the building manager, as did "Guillen." We discovered that both of them are real estate agents at Grand Beach Realty. At the beginning of this month, Guillen offered them their security deposit back and it was agreed that they would move out as soon as they found a new residence. They have. When it was time to relinquish the deposit, Guillen could not be found. Another tenant in the building finally told them that he had gone out of the country on vacation. Therefore, the couple told management to just keep the deposit and use it as last month's rent.

Oh no! cried the management and all stated that they would contact the owner. The couple was contacted by a woman named Stephanie who called from Texas, also claiming to be management. The buck was passed until the owner was finally revealed.

For this report, we discovered that the building is owned by MB CARLYLE LLC. This is the information we obtained from the department of state:

Of these managers, Matis Cohen contacted the couple and admitted to being the owner. He apparently just does not like pigs. He seems to have some sort of phobia, but it is our guess here on the Bogus Barrister that pigs are against his religious beliefs and he is attempting to make his tenants conform to his religious practices. Meanwhile the wife of this couple, is American Indian and pigs are sacred totem animals.

On or about the evening of July 21st, the couple arrived home after work. They went to walk their dogs and at that point discovered the back door was unlocked. That is, after a bizarre note was found taped to the front door (please see the photo). This note reads

" July 21 2011
to apt #5

You need to talk with the owner in 24hr (646-715-7795) or if not, you need leave the apartament {sic} emty {sic}."

The couple had been talking with Mr.Cohen's management staff. Cohen claims he had been to the apartment "for the last 9 days in a row." If so, why didn't he leave his name and number then and why did he write this letter (which he admitted via email that he did write)as third person. Why didn't he say this is Matis Cohen. Please call me. I am the owner? This is a clear threat and intimidation. Couple that with the fact that the back door was found open and it begins to look like the owner had entered the apartment that night. Furthermore, from the emails that we at the Bogus Barrister have read, Cohen thinks this get out in 24 hours threat is a legal 3 day demand for payment notice. Even if he didn't get a call back, he still couldn't have forced these people out in 24 hours.
