Allan and Violet Large Scam

Allen and Violet Large are an elderly couple from Canada. They really did win the lottery and yes they did give away their winnings to various charities last year. The problem here is that Nigerian scammers are impersonating them with this scam letter. Sent from allenlarge900@gmail.com

    4. I received a email informing me that Mr and Mrs Large has donated $500,000 to me a few days ago. I became suspicious when they requested my Bank information. They claimed they were representatives from Community Bank NA and they needed my Bank account number and routing number to make the transfer. I told them I would meet with them in person. I refused to disclose my personal information online for fear of Identity Theft. I have not heard from these Scammers again.

    7. Ireceived a letter in my email but, they didnt ask for any of my id but to set up an account with Lloyds of london. seriously if its a scam hw would they get a reputable bank like that involved. scam or noth, im calling lloyds today to find out and if its indeed fake, lloyds can be held accountable for it and I will sue for a million, in the email it does state that violet has died and that allen is not long for this life much longer. I asked personal questions about their neighborhood as I used to live where they live now and they knew the answers. I'll let you know how things turn out. not all of the emails are scams and the email they sent it to is not listed anywhere online as I used to work on an anti spam task force for the FBI.

    9. I have also received this email. Sadly, my usual guardedness regarding people wanting to give me several million dollars failed me. I haven't given them any banking details. i did give them my home address and a photo of my student card.

In regards to this, what steps can or should I take in regards to handing out this information?

    10. what's funny is that the dead giveaway that it's a scam is that Allen is the one supposedly writing this and he is like 90 years old and doesn't even own a microwave, but writes so eloquently and is able to send out mass emails to random addresses... how does he get the addresses?.. and in the email it confirms that you are a recipient of all this money, but at the bottom he wishes you "Good Luck" like you may just be a contestant...LMAO what a joke! the Nigerians doing all these scams are idiots! but the people that fall for them are far worse!! if it seems too good to be true, it almost ALWAYS IS!! do research people... all it takes is to take a few key words or names from the email and type them into google and if the word SCAM comes up in the predictive search, then you could probably just stop there and hit DELETE on that email...lmao!

      my $.02

    11. I got this email as well a few days again. I was one of those "idiots" that fell for it. Luckily, I only sent my name and address. Nothing too personal. They did try getting me to set up an account with some INVESTEC Private Bank. Haven't given them anything personal either. Any other advice I can get?

I received this email yesterday. It was a very generous offer, too generous. I actually emailed the sender to ask more questions. Whoever it was replied back with this long email trying to make it sound soooo sincere. But my husband looked more into it. I even emailed the reporter asking her questions. People are just sick. The shrewd considers his steps closely. So if something sounds to good to be true it more than likely is.

  17. I received the email to and figured it was a scam. Wow how typical and disappointing to know that foreigners or who ever they are would do this. Yes they are impersonating people that look to be wonderful and congratulations to the couple, but to the assholes that are doing this you are not only hurting them. You are hurting families that are struggling out there and dashing dreams that people like the Large's do still exist in this world. Shame on you for trying to scam people and defacing this couples name.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I received an email from some other person stating that it was from Allen Large and to reply back to an email that was supposed to be Allen Large's. It had the link to check and see if it was real so I went to it. Usually when they send you a link (especially the get rich quick work from home scams) and you go to it, it will show you the information that is supposed to be real but when you click on anything else it just keeps going to the same thing so you know it's not real, but when I clicked on something else it really went to something else. Still skeptical about it all I figured I would play along and email the claimed to be Allen Large's email back. The response was just obdurate and preposterous... the scammer used the cancer pity scheme. Well me being outspoken and spontaneous decided to reply back with my first name (since it's part of my email address) some fake info and my own meticulous sad sob story and how happy I was to be given the opportunity to get the money and what I would do with it. Their response was some bogus account info at a national bank (that does exist) and that I needed to create an online bank account with them and then the money could be transferred over to any account I wanted. All the time and effort that is put into these scams is truly amazing, just think of how the world could be if that same time and effort was used for something relevant like truly helping the ones in need.

I can't fit it all in one post so just keep scrolling down so see it all

    1. I was reading all your stuff about this scam, & out of all these people on this page, your emails are the closest to the ones I received. However, I haven't been asked for any personal info besides my name. No ID info it my birthdate or bank account numbers. They also said they are giving me a million dollars. Ask I have to do is contact there bank & set up a new account and it's mine to "help myself & my community". I even told then I'm unemployed so of it's a scam they won't try anything from me. I'm not falling it, so don't get me wrong... But I'm playing along to see where it goes. I just am blown away by people who do this & even more I am sad that some people fall for it & lose... I did notice though that they are sending legitimate links to verify the story, they are not being pushy about my personal info, & they have even upgraded to letting me know that "it's hard for them to reply to my emails often since they don't have a computer themselves", so they are catching on to us catching on & changing accordingly.. Hmmmm

We report every scam letter to the proper authorities. When you ask if "anyone" has reported this, I must ask, have YOU?

If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Don't wait for anybody else to act.

  25. “What you’ve never had, you never miss,” Violet told The Chronicle Herald in November.

The couple quietly donated to hospitals in Truro and Halifax where Violet, who had been diagnosed with cancer a few months before the win, underwent treatment. They also gave to family members, churches, cemeteries, fire departments, the Victorian Order of Nurses, the home and school association, Red Cross, SPCA, War Amps and many other organizations.

The couple wouldn’t say how much they donated to each group, but they kept giving until there was nothing left but a small percentage — about two per cent — to keep their home running...money is now donated...

Shame on these people for taking advantage of people's hearts!

    ReplyDelete
  30. You have to watch out for SNOPES too. They have spun some yarns there too. This is an advance fee scam. If you got involved they would come up with excuses why you should pay shipping fees and "keeping" fees. The Nigerians love to call it keeping fees for some reason. Yeah, shame on them for trying to cheat those who want free and easy money.

  50. This is one of MANY scam letters I receive, at least once a day!! And last week some scumbag from the "Scam Country" managed to get ahold of my credit card number because I couldn't afford Anti-virus coverage for 3 weeks, which included protecting my credit card info!! So I was woken up by my bank asking me if I had bought over $1,300 worth of tires in Nigeria? Yeah, I just made that trip yesterday!! I have never made a transaction over $100, nevermind $1,000!! They made two previous transactions, the first for $1.00, the second for $14.99, just to "test the waters" and then they went in for the kill!! I am so sick of this crap!!!!!!!!!! I get so many I could never count all that I get in a year, it has to be over 500!! I tried to forward them to my local TV Stations or the BBB (Better Business Bureau), and the local newspaper, but no one seemed to care. So I will try to report this to the FBI Fraud Division, but I'm not sure if that will help at all either?!!
Now I just delete them the second I get them, but this one I just felt like looking into further. It makes me sick that these cowards are doing this in the name of two very generous and sweet people!! I hate bullies and cowards, oh and liars, and you scumbags are the worst of all three!! They aren't your classic bullies that will push the kids down on the playground, but they are the ones that help the kids up while picking their pocket, which makes them scummy bullies!! They hide behind good honest people to destroy lives, and they don't give a damn who they hurt!! If you scumbags are reading this I want you to know I am a firm believer in "What goes around, comes around." And you pieces of crap will get what's coming to you eventually, just remember that!! And for everyone else, if it seems too good to be true, IT IS!!!!
    God Bless!!

When e-mail them aboutt he house he said that he and his wife are missionaries and are in west Africa. They want someone in the house that will love it as they loved the house. the rent is 600.00. the deposit is 550.00 once you make the deposit they will send the key and contract over night. all ultilies are inclulded. I pulled the house up and found that the suppose owner no longer own the house and that it was on the market with a real estate company. I gave them the infomation and forward the e-mails from the suppose owners. Never heard back from the Mr. so watch if it is from out of state and it is to good to be true then it is. butt wholes . excuse my french :) blessing and spread the word.

Dont let any of these CROOKS stop you from entering legit contests..just use common sense! think about it, if you really won ANY amount of money, you will NOT EVER be contacted through only your random email to win a prize!! And CERTAINLY not a ridiculous figure like millions of dollars!! An ex-coworker of mine won $25,000 all legit. First, they contacted her thru registered mail(remember a legit company with REAL winnings to give has software such as Lexis-Nexis to locate anyone) So then she had to go to an official Corporation-a legit business where she was encouraged to bring her own attorney to look over the winnings statement/agreement and bring 2 forms of ID for the notary to notarize the documents etc. Then after two meetings w/her atty and the company's atty, they all signed off on the winnings, and made her fill out an IRS form for taxes. See-now doesnt all that make sense? THAT'S HOW YOU WIN SOMETHING LEGIT!! USE YOUR COMMON SENSE!! It just baffles me how many ppl have no common sense!! If you think a random person on the internet chose your random email of say: abc123@hotmail.com and wants to give you millions, then PLEASE contact me, i have ALOT of pesky gold hanging around that i want to give away to you(for a small fee of course!)lol

LOL. No "winning notices" would ever be sent by email. Why? Email owners can never be verified. They are never legal means of contact. Any drawings you entered if they are real would ask for your phone number and physical address. But watch out, long before the internet these letters were sent out by regular mail also.

It's horrible that the Nigerian scammers are STILL trying to come up with new ideas, some that include REAL news stories like this couple who really did win the lottery, to try and bilk people out of their life savings.

  64. look like it is coming from a VA.gov address (scary) AND ... ooops allenviolarge@yahoo.com.hk so this one is in Hong Kong

That is indeed scary. Obviously they forged the headers which is nothing new for these scammers but do not assume that because they use a Yahoo.hk email address thatitoriginates from Hong Kong. You can establish Yahoo accounts to make it look like you are somewhere else simply by lying about the country you live in when you sign up.

  65. Yes the economy is bad all over the world and we have definitely noted an increase in the amount of these scam letters being sent out. It is also very sad that these scammers are still writing as Violet Large because she has died.

    ReplyDelete
  66. The email address they sent it from is NOT their personal reply-to email, but the email address of a Anna M. Rubio, ARubio@rivcocha.org

This means they forged the header to make it look like it came from somewhere else... to make it look official. Nigerian 419 scammers do this. You will get an email from the person who is dying and they tell you to write to their banker or lawyer. The dying person, banker, lawyer are all the same scammer.

  67. If I got an email that looked like this, I would forward a copy of the scam letter to arubio@rivcocha.org to let her know that scammers are sending out these letters trying to make it look like they were sent out by her. This is the Riverside Health department.

I know I did it without any trouble. I think it is incredulous that these low lifes not only prey on people with their emails, but are using the good names of innocent and very philanthropic people like the Larges. How pathetic is that. Trouble is these people are never caught and they just move on to the next scam.

  82. what do you think the "government" is going to about this? These scams are an international problem and did not start with the internet. Nigerian scams started back in the 1920's and were sent by snail mail. So the world has arrived a long time ago unfortunately. That's why this blog is here. Knowledge is your best defense. You could report this email to the email host where it was sent. Provide them with the full headers so that they can see the IP address and authentication keys. Most elderly people are not on the internet, neither is Allen Large. Violet has passed away.

Crime victims have reported these scams to the FBI but to date, not a penny has been recovered from Nigerian scammers.

    ReplyDelete
  85. @anonymous, of course this is still a scam. All it means is that your scammer did a bit of research. It means that somewhere on the internet, you have your full name published along with your email address. That part would bother me because a criminal has this information. I would google the email address. Then google it with your name. You may even have your privacy settings on a social network like Facebook set so that you are searchable by your email address. I would locate that source of information and delete it. But just remember that the scammer doesn't know if your email account is active or if it still belongs to you, unless you reply.

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/violet-large-gave-away-her-lottery-windfall/article2119137/

Cause to the information in our article above, We have prayed and searched over the internet for assistance on our decision to donate $500,000usd to you because i saw your profile on google published email owners list and picked you, we have already finalized our decision to donate the sum of $500,000usd to you as part of our charity project to improve the lot of five (5) lucky individuals all over the world from our $11.3 million Jackpot Lottery winning fund. Violet my wife and i have decided to make sure this is put on the internet for the world to see before she died, my wife had cancer and she died last year july 16 at colchester regional hospital in truro, my wife just didn't die but she was a loving and caring wife and I miss her so much and this is why I have decided to do one thing i promised her forever. as you could see from the webpage above, am not getting any younger and you can imagine having no kids at this age. Although we won this lottery funds last year july 2010 this money has been in my possession and we have helped some charity organizations from our winnings.

After taken care of the needs of our immediate family members and friends, we both decided on donating the remaining of the $11million to other individuals around the world in need, the local fire department, the red cross, haiti, hospitals in truro where violet underwent her cancer treatment, and some other organizations in asia and europe that fight cancer, alzheimer's and diabetes and the bulk of the funds deposited with our financial firm of this charity donation. we have kept just 2% of the entire lottery sum to our self.

For me to facilitate the disbursement process of the funds ($500,000usd) which we have donated solely to you, you are to send us your full names for payment, your contact address and your personal telephone number, so that i can forward your payment information to you. I am hoping that you will be able to use the money prudently and judiciously over there in your locality. please you have to do your part to also alleviate the level of poverty in your region, help as many people you can help once you have this money in your personal account because that is our only objective of donating this money to you.

I like to assure you of the authenticity of this services as we will not be involved in any illegal act and will never be, we only want to feel good by helping people at this beginning of the year, this is the only thing that makes my wife happy even now that she is not here with me anymore, we have too much to give away as I only have few years left on earth. I will advise as you as the prospective lucky winners to be calm not to loose this great opportunity which millions of people are trying to entangled but the chances just couldn’t come for them because a lot of people are out there to discourage them as they don't know how it works, and have never seen such before

Reply me if you have received this message and provide me with your name, current address and personal telephone number to enable me provide you the additional information for your payment at once, we are indeed grateful.

    God bless you

  104. Its sad that people are still doing this! I received this email two days ago. I feel so stupid! How does someone fall for this I can't believe I did or that someone is doing this! Can't believe I was actually gonna sit there and waste my time seeing if this was real. Its sad because I have two child and my youngest has one kidney! Pure wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  105. And where do you go to report this?!

    ReplyDelete
  106. LMAO!!! I knew something was up with this. They're still up to it, just received one myself. The FIRST red flag was a 70 something person sending an email haha that's like a 2 year old driving an 18 wheeler.. NOT GONNA HAPPEN!! thanks for the internet and places like this to point people in the right direction. Also if you won money in a sweepstakes or someone was to "donate" money they would NOT need your CC # checking account or ANY form of payment or financial numbers from you. If its too good to be true most likely it is.

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/violet-large-gave-away-her-lottery-windfall/article2119137/

My wife and I decided to donate the sum of $500,000.00USD to you as part of our charity project to improve the lot of 10 lucky individuals all over the world from our $11.3 million Jackpot Lottery winning fund. We prayed and searched over the internet for assistance because I saw your profile on Microsoft email owners list and picked you. Violet my wife and I have decided to make sure this is put on the internet for the world to see. My wife has cancer and she died last year July 16 at Colchester regional hospital in truro, my wife just didn't die but she was a great person and I miss her so much and this is why I have decided to do one thing i promised her forever. as you could see from the webpage above, am not getting any younger and you can imagine having no kids at this age. Although we won this lottery funds last year July 2010 and we have helped some charity organization from our winnings.

You see after taken care of the needs of our immediate family members, Before she died we decided to donate the remaining of the $11million to other individuals around the world in need, the local fire department, the red cross, Haiti, hospitals in truro where violet underwent her cancer treatment, and some other organizations in Asia and Europe that fight cancer, Alzheimer’s and diabetes and the bulk of the funds deposited with our payout bank of this charity donation. We have kept just 2% of the entire lottery sum to our self for the raining day.

To facilitate the payment process of the funds ($500,000.00 usd) which have been donated solely to you, you are to send us your full names for payment, your contact address and your personal telephone number, so that i can forward your payment information to you immediately. I am hoping that you will be able to use the money wisely and judiciously over there in your country. please have to do your part to also alleviate the level of poverty in your region, help as many you can help once you have this money in your personal account because that is the only objective of donating this money to you in the first place.

I like to re-assure you of the legitimacy of this services as we will not be involved in any fraudulent act and will never be, we only want to feel good by helping people this time of the year, this is the only thing that makes my wife happy too even now that she is not here with me anymore, we have too much to give away as I only have few years left on earth. I will advise as you as the prospective lucky winners to be calm not to lose this great opportunity which millions of people are trying to entangled but the chances just couldn’t come for them because a lot of people are out there to discourage them as they don't know how it works, and have never seen such before. Please you have to delete this message if you are not willing to carry out this project.

Thank you for accepting our offer, we are indeed grateful.

    God bless you
    Allen and Violet Large

  121. its making its way around again slightly different version of the ones above however most of the same information . I received it today and they ask me to provide the details to FedEx in Mississauga Ontario. I am to provide my full name, address, and cell number and pay $260 for FedEx to release the bank draft for $500,000.00. If it sounds too good to be true--IT IS most likely a scam.... Then yup i searched and saw scam. Well of course it is really why would "Google Management" as they put it give anyone my email address especially a yahoo email address.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Let me ask you guys a question. We see a lot of commenters asking this blog "what can this scammer do? I ONLY gave him my name and my address" why would you give a total stranger ANY information about you? If somebody approached you on the street corner, asking you for your name, address, bank account numbers..who would give that information? okay then. An email is not considered in any court of law as a legal means of communication. Why then do you people reply to these stranger's emails and hand over enough information to steal your identity?????

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think, people should ask them the EMAILER for THEIR INFO, Phone Numbers, KNOWN Banks and Numbers and Verification. So that everything could be verified. As for me, Steal my identity! I have NOTHING more to LOSE! As for the address, I have 4 small children to PROTECT. that is my priority.

      Delete
    2. anonymous, not sure I understand your logic. you say you have 4 kids to protect and they are your priority but in the same sentence you don't think that stealing your identity would be a threat to their safety as well as your own. Having "nothing more to lose" is no way to see things. You can lose your life and so can your children at the hands of these criminals. Yes, these are criminals who send out these letters. They are crime gangs and almost all are involved with even more serious activity like the major drug cartels. Think about that.

Basically, you get baited into creating an acct. so that they can deposit the 2 million.

  140. Well, they are at it again! They even included a link to the news story about the Larges. Incredible! This is the email I received from some scammer. Glad I found this site to know what this is really about.

    Good Day To You

Complement of the season from the Large Family to you, this is to acknowledge your message to us today and this is 100% legitimate visit this web-page: http://www.ctvnews.ca/n-s-couple-gives-away-11m-in-lottery-winnings-1.570916, my wife and I have decided to donate the sum of $2,000,000.00 USD to you as part of our charity project to improve the lives of lot many individuals in your local area from our $11.3 million Jackpot Lottery winning funds. We prayed and searched over the Internet for someone to donate this money to in your country and we saw your profile on Google list of email owners and we picked you. Violet my wife has cancer and as you could see from the web-page i am not getting any younger and you can imagine having no kids at this age. although we won this lottery funds July 2010 and we have helped some charity organizations, family members and friends from our winnings.

Because my wife's illness the doctor informed us that she might not live long to see the end of the year and she wishes to do good things before she finally depart this sinful world. we would like you to invest this money in a lucrative business to create more job opportunity to help jobless and needy people in your locality as we have already donated money to the local fire department, the red cross, Haiti, hospitals in Truro where Violet underwent her cancer treatment, and some other organizations in Asia and Europe that fight cancer, Alzheimer's and diabetes. we just kept just 2% of the entire lottery sum to our self for the raining days and which i am still spending on my wife's treatments bills... i have attached along with this email two pictures of my me and my wife and a photo of my wife in hospital bed.

To facilitate the disbursement process of the funds ($2,000,000.00 USD) which have been donated solely to you, You are to send us your full names for payment and contact address (we asked for this brief information just to know who we are donating this money to and because of the Identity thief going around the internet which i have been a victim we do not want to ask you for your ID as we do not want to leave an impression in your mind that we want to steal your identity). we are hoping that you will be able to use the money wisely and judiciously over there in your country. we will employ you to do what you can to alleviate the level of poverty in your region and also try to enhance the standard of living of as many people as you can because that is the only objective of donating this money to you in the first place.

We would like you to re-assure us that you will follow our instructions and help my wife fulfill her dream before we would provide you with information on how you will receive this funds, and if you feel you cannot handle this project you should inform us so we can quickly look for another individual to donate the money to.

If you have any question please don't fail to ask.

We anticipate to read from you soon.

    God bless you,
    Allen and Violet Large.

  145. I received this email myself and of course, I did not fall for it. I mean this seems like the oldest trick in the book since the internet started. However it would be nice if it were true...I could definitely $1 Million bucks to donate to my own charities.

    Oh well...
