PublishAmerica telling lies to potential new authors

PublishAmerica's definition of "traditional" publisher has become an issue in the class action lawsuit that was recenlty filed against them.

Also note that PA does not mention to this potential author that these marketing services must be paid for by the author and is not something that is included in a real contract with a commercial publisher.

Dear {name redacted}

Thank you for your inquiry. We have an entire marketing department that works hard to put books in bookstores and elsewhere as well. We have many years experience at doing this, and we are good at it.

Thank you for asking about traditional publishers. A traditional publisher publishes books without cost to the author. We publish your book, and do all that is described below, without you even spending one cent. No one else in the world does this.

What we have do costs about $1500 in the vanity publishing industry. But, because we believe that your book deserves to be published, we publish your book for free, in the traditional manner. As far as publishing your book goes, you don't have to spend a cent to get published.

We do quite a bit of marketing, although we are not required to do so. We acquire, vet, design, produce, publish, and make your book available to booksellers worldwide at exactly zero cost to you. We take care of all the technical and graphical details, we issue your book's unique ISBN, we produce a beautiful book with high quality cover art, and we put it in the hands of five printing companies on four continents, all at no cost to you. Although the contract does not require us to do any marketing, as you can see, we usually go above and beyond what the contract requires.
